Show plates are for off-road display only
This is the part that matters most, so it comes first: a show plate is a display item. It must not be fitted to a vehicle that is used on a public road. It is intended for car shows and stands, garage and man-cave displays, photo shoots, and vehicles kept off the road entirely.
Any number plate displayed on a vehicle on a public road has to comply with BS AU 145e — the standard mandatory for plates made since September 2021. A plate that does not comply can lead to a fine and will fail an MOT, and an incorrectly displayed registration can also invalidate the plate's readability for cameras and enforcement.

What can a show plate look like?
Because a show plate is not made for road use, it isn't bound by the road plate rules on font, spacing, background and reflectivity. That is exactly why they're popular for display builds — and exactly why they cannot go on the road.

For anything driven on a public road you need a road-legal set from a DVLA Registered Number Plate Supplier, made to BS AU 145e. We make those in every style: standard £30, 3D gel £35, 4D £40, 4D gel £45 and pressed retro £60 a pair, with short, square and import sizes at £25 and single replacements at £15.
Road-legal orders include a document check — proof of identity and proof of entitlement to the registration — which you upload during the order.

How long do show plates take?
Show plates are made in 1–2 working days and posted signed-for by Royal Mail anywhere in the UK, or held free for collection from our Dagenham workshop. Because no document check is needed for a display plate, production usually starts straight away.
How much do plates cost?
All prices per pair, paid in full at order — there is no deposit on plates. Royal Mail signed-for postage is added at checkout and we deliver anywhere in the UK.
Road-legal or show plate?
Number plates made since September 2021 must comply with BS AU 145e. 3D and 4D raised characters can be road-legal provided the plate meets that standard — the mandated font and character height, correct spacing, the right colour and reflectivity, the supplier details and BS AU 145e marking, and nothing that misrepresents the registration.
Novelty and show plates that don't meet the standard are for off-road display use only. They must not be fitted to a vehicle used on the road. Tick the show-plate option at checkout if that's what you want and we'll skip the document checks.
Ordering a show plate
Show plates are display items. By ordering one you're confirming it will be used off the road only — at shows, on a display stand, in a workshop or on a vehicle that isn't used on public roads. We don't need ID or proof of entitlement for a display plate, because we aren't supplying it for road use.

Plates are packed in rigid protective packaging with the fixing kit included. If you'd rather collect, that's still an option — but posting is the default for national orders.
